Your Child's Imaginary Friends
Almost all kids invent imaginary friends, environments & pretends he can do things he really cannot. It's as though your child lives in a picture book full of things he can imagine up. This is nothing out of the ordinary as a child's mind is made of all sorts of creative thoughts. He will continue to conjure up imaginative friends, pretend he can walk on water, and live in a world that is a little more creative and richer to explore than the world you and I know.
Don't worry this is quite normal as it is an indication that your child is expressing himself creatively, discovering things to enrich his mind and inventing away as a means of learning. CONTINUED BELOW
Here are some things you can do to help your child imagine:
- Play along . If your child pretends she is riding a dinosaur who eats giant flowers from your garden, don't tell her there's no such thing. Just play along and encourage her to tell your more about this world. Ask her what kind of flowers the dinosaur likes the best, and where the dinosaur is walking her off to.
- Allow your child to express himself creatively. Invest is some colorful paints, crayons, markers and clay so he can illustrate his imagination & thoughts to you. It's also a good idea to start some music lessons with your child or at least sing with him.
- Toys a Plenty. Keep fun toys all around the house. Buy toys that promote learning, role-play & other open-ended toys that encourage imagination. Building blocks are great for building everything from
