Top Fall Health Tips
1. Wash Hands - Upon arriving home from all outings always wash your children's hands with soap and warm water. Hands touch everything, even shopping carts that can contain harmful viruses and bacteria.
2. Carry Sanitizing Wipes - When eating out or placing your children in shopping carts, grab a sanitizing wipe out and disinfect the eating area or seating area.
3. Prevent the Flu - Between 5% to 20% of the population get the flu each year. 200,000 people require hospitilization and 36,000 die from this preventable illness. A flu vaccine is the best way to protect against the flu. The flu vaccine protects against three different flu viruses and pediatricians usually have a good supply of vaccines in October to November.
4. Carseats & Fluffy Jackets Don't Mix - Overly puffy children's jackets can introduce unsafe measures if your child is sitting in her carseat. Jackets and too much layered clothing can create slack in the harness which will not hold your child in place ideally during an impact. If the impact is from behind, she will be thrust forward instead of being held securely in the seat.
5. Keep Toes Warm - Our outer limbs do not circulate blood as well as our inner body so have your children wear socks to keep their toes warm which in turns keeps their bodies warmer.
6. Vitamins - If your child doesn't take a daily multi-vitamin, consider it. Having a sufficient supply of essentials vitamins and minerals in the body will help children (and adults) fight common illnesses like colds.
